Getting started
What Biththi does, how it is organized, and the first things to set up so you can send your first invoice.
What Biththi does
Biththi is a GST billing app for small businesses in India. You quote with estimates, bill with invoices, record the payments you receive, keep track of what you buy, and keep stock in step, all in one place.
- Sell: customers, items and stock, estimates, invoices, and receivables (payments, advances, credit notes and statements).
- Buy: suppliers, and expenses and purchase bills.
- Follow the business: the dashboard for what needs doing today, and Reports for how a period went, with reports to download for your accountant.
- Work as a team: users and roles, shared favorites and history, and organization-wide settings.
How Biththi is organized
- Everything belongs to your organization: customers, items, documents and settings are shared by everyone you invite.
- Your organization has a business type, chosen at sign-up: Standard / General, or Jewellery. It decides which pricing tools you see and cannot be changed later. See Jewellery billing.
- Your organization is on a plan: Starter (free) or Growth. See Plans.
- On a computer, the menu on the left has Dashboard, Sales (Estimates, Invoices, Customers, Receivables), Purchase (Suppliers, Expenses), Items and Reports. Settings, notifications and your profile are at the top right. On a phone, see Phones and tablets.
Key ideas
| Idea | What it means |
|---|---|
| Draft and saved | Invoices, estimates and expenses start as drafts you can keep editing. Saving makes an invoice final: it gets its number, counts as a sale and changes stock. |
| Read-only first | Saved records open read-only so nothing changes by accident. Choose Edit to change them. |
| Corrections | A saved invoice can't be edited. Correct it with a credit note. |
| Financial year | Date filters and reports follow the Indian financial year, 1 April to 31 March. |
| GST | Each invoice line has one GST rate. Biththi charges CGST and SGST within your state and IGST to other states, from the place of supply. |
